About Us

This citizens-led initiative will provide the funding to build and maintain a new, modern library.

Neighbor volunteers spent the summer and fall collecting more than 2,400 signatures to place this measure on the ballot to fund a new library in El Cerrito.

The existing library is 75 years old, too small, seismically unsafe, too noisy, and difficult to access. Money raised from this special parcel tax can only be used for the planning, design and construction costs of building the new library and the first ten years of increased library operating costs.

El Cerrito deserves and needs a new, modern library. A modern library will have more computers, spaces for teens to study after school, quiet areas for comfortable reading, meeting spaces for collaboration, and a large space for lectures and community dialogue.
